About Us
The OHU has been established within the National Primary Care Research and Development Centre

The NPCRDC is a well established centre of excellence for delivering high quality research which is directly relevant to support national policy for the development of primary care and is a collaboration between the Universities of Manchester and York.

Through combining academic excellence with professionals working in practice, the Oral Health Unit provides potential researchers and with an open window on the world of dental research processes and an excellent opportunity to access a comprehensive range of skills, advice and infomrtaion.

Dentistry, a principally primary care profession, has had no presence in the Centre until now, so this initiative is a significant development for health services research in dentistry

The aims of the OHU are to:
  • Expand research capacity in dentistry
  • Develop research infrastructure in primary dental care
  • Increase research outputs to improve dental services for patients
Whilst the unit aims to make research more accessible and viable for GDPs, the OHU is also a research active unit and are striving to set the highest standards in research by becoming a model of excellence themselves through the high quality policy relevant research they undertake.
